Charlie Nicholas
1961 —
Football Player; Hailed as a teenage wonder, Charlie Nicholas made his debut for Celtic in a Glasgow Cup tie against Queens Park in August 1979. In his first spell at Celtic Nicholas won two League championships and the Scottish League Cup. In season 1982/83 he scored fifty goals in all competitions and was voted Scottish Footballer of the Year and Young Player of the Year.
Charlie joined Arsenal in the summer of 1983 and would make 184 appearances for the North London club scoring 54 goals, including a double when Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-1 in the League Cup Final of 1987. After five years at Highbury, Charlie came back north to join Aberdeen in January 1988. He played 75 times for ‘the Dons’ scoring 30 goals and winning the Scottish League Cup in 1989 and the Scottish Cup in 1990. Having rejoined his boyhood heroes in July 1990 Charlie would win the Scottish Cup once more in 1995 and would make a total of 236 appearances for Celtic scoring 124 goals. Charlie also won 20 international caps for Scotland, scoring five goals for his country and playing at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
