Gordon Strachan

1957 —

Current Scotland manager Gordon Strachan is now a high profile manager but he was successful at club level too especially with Aberdeen, Manchester United and Leeds where he was voted Player of the Year in 1991. Strachan was capped 50 times by Scotland and played at the 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico. With Aberdeen he was voted Scottish Player of the Year in 1980. He won two Scottish League Championship titles, three Scottish Cups, the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the European Super Cup. He also won the FA Cup in 1985 and the Football League Second Division in 1990 and the First Division in 1992.

As a manager, Strachan would lead his Southampton side to the 2003 FA Cup final, losing 1-0 to Arsenal. He would then go on to manage Celtic in 2005 winning three Scottish Premiership League titles, one Scottish Cup and two Scottish League Cups before taking up the position as national team boss in 2013. Strachan would manage the team, overseeing great performances against Ireland and England in particular, before stepping down in 2017.
