Martin Buchan

Martin Buchan enjoyed a long career stretching from 1966 to 1985, including 456 league games for Manchester United. The talented centre back started off at Aberdeen under Eddie Turnbull, signing for the club in 1966. In 1970 he became the youngest captain in Aberdeen’s history and helped guide the Dons to a famous Scottish Cup final win over Celtic a few months later.

He was Aberdeen’s record transfer when he moved to Old Trafford for £125,000 in 1972. Buchan would go on to captain Manchester United as they lifted the FA Cup in 1977 and in doing so became the first player to captain FA Cup and Scottish Cup winning sides. While at Old Trafford he would pick up a Second Division winners medal in 1975 and reach a second FA Cup final in 1979. At international level Buchan had a successful career winning 34 Scotland caps and playing at the 1974 and 1978 World Cup finals.
